Question with auto stop/start system

On a 40-mile drive, i noticed some odd behavior with my Tucson's auto stop/start system. The engine would shut off at lights in one town, but in the next it didnt, and i never messed wtih the auto off switch. At times the button light turned on by itself, then later off again, and the system went back to working normally. I usually disable the feature, but lately i've gotten used to it since it's smooth and even helps with fuel economy, I averaged almost 35mpg on that trip. Has anyone else experienced this or know if it adjusts based on conditions?

What you're seeing is normal, the Tucson's auto stop/start system doesn't just run off the switch, it also factors in things like battery charge, engine temp, A/C load and even outside conditions. Thats why it can work in one situation but stay off in another. Sounds like yours is functioning as designed, especially since you're getting good mileage.
